Ohiopyle Falls Race '04

(Free-wheel Video)

At this years Ohiopyle Falls race the Go Big Rig was in attendance and Fluid Kayaks will be a sponsor at the event. I raced again this year, while most of the rest of the Fluid Team was in Rock Island at the US Nationals. Because of Hurricane Fances and high water the Falls Race was pushed back two weeks, and now coincides with the Nationals.

I raced the Large Solo Prototype, at 8' in the 8'6" and under class and got 4th place in the class and 14th overall. This was my first time spending time in the L Solo and I found the boat to be super fast and very agile. The boat boofed easily and punched waves with speed. I also did a big freewheel off the waterfall in the freestyle event to earn 7th place in my Medium flirt.

I'd like to thank Barry Adams for all of his hard work in organizing the event and putting together the silent auction. A M Fluid flirt went for really good money in the auction that benefited American Whitewater.

On Saturday night during the town party my film Wet Dreamin' '03 East Coast Playboating was projected on the side of the Laurel Highlands barn. It was really cool to see the excited crowd and my film on such a large screen.

For those of you who don't know this event is held in Ohiopyle, PA, at the waterfall located just upstream of the normal Lower Youghiogheny put-in. This is the one time of the year that it is legal to run this awesome waterfall.

I hope to see you all at the Falls race next year- Bryon Dorr
