Mission: 2005 STAKE OUT

For 3 weeks Pat Camblin Myself and a few others have staked out the Bus Eater wave on the Ottawa river.  It came in just long enough for bus eater to stomp on everyone and then gone like a dam ghost again.  IF you aren’t up on the Bus Eater wave, get a back issue of Session magazine, “zoom in Bus eater”.  Basically when it is in, nothing could possibly come close to what this wave has to offer in size amplitude and imagination.  The 2006 World kayaking championships are being held here.  The rules of freestyle have changed forever and subsequently leaders like Locals, New-in-house, Long, Fisher, Curtis, Patrick Camblin and many others show up to paddle this monster and take the sport to the next level. Its great, they all come rolling in with Jet skis SUV’s and mobile homes. The stake out consisted of a little guy named Evan Jones and a cell phone sleeping at the Gauge right on the river in his Tracker convertible.  The Gauge is normally about mid way down the river and hard to get to.  But what we use is a Culvert with marker marks dashed all over the side and a tape measure.  We know that at the top of the gauge are 20 and a quarter.  My personal favorite level and Big Bus.   This year I put a donkey flip in the air in my new fluid boat that could carry me a happy person until mid JUNE.  So needless to say Patrick and I have long arguments over what is the perfect level.  I like 20 and a bit, he likes 16 1/4  he loves mini bus and with landing monster moves with Marlow like the Bread and Butter, a blunt to backstab combo. On bus eater it makes it hard as hell to argue with him about the level.  Myself, well I just want to put that little Fluid boat in the air as high as I can.  I can hardly sleep at night, twisting and turning all night long, my body is a mess, my hip actually hurts, witch my buddy Dave is going to ride me about for weeks. Well enough chit chat, check out some of these shots.
