The Best in The West '05

Chapter 11: wherein our hero, the Famous Leif Anderson, travels unto the Best in the West rodeo and does kick much ass.

Yea, and forsooth, upon the 14th day of may, 2005, the Famous Leif Anderson (being of course, myself) did make all haste and travel unto the Best in the West Rodeo, in the far distant land of Missoula, Montana, where he sought glory and fame and perhaps some sweet prizes in the name of Fluid. Twas an ardous quest. Ye competition twas held upon the site of the renouned triple bridges hole, at the mouth of fearsome Alberton Gorge, which can easily be recognized by the four bridges that cross over the Clark Fork at this location. Great and mighty is the skill of the Montanians in the matter of counting.

Feirce twas the weather, but yea, much more feirce twas the competition, for as is well known across many lands, all competition against the Famous Leif Anderson is feirce indeed. Great is the fame and badass are the skills of the mighty Famous Leif. For he is quite tall. Pity be unto the knave that should seek to face the Famous Leif. But despite the fearsome skills and massive amplitude of our hero's posturing, 5th did he place. For many pros of enormous caliber had indeed also verily made travel unto the competition. Forsooth. Yea. Unparalleled twas the fonix monkey that Tom McKee did bust forth unto the crowd. Furious twere the many maneuvers which Jon Meyers did whip out and stomp down with which to massively represent. Broken twas the paddle that Lane Jacobs did mightily snap in half upon his helm, with an angry roar of anger. Snakelike and deadly twere the backloops of the Dombinator; Kevin Dombey. Nasty and fearsome in magnitude twere the mightily loops of the Famous Leif Anderson, but low twas his variety. For shame.

But laidback was the mood of the day. For the prelims did indeed require one ride which therein the competitors were only allowed downriver and entry moves. And many did test their mettle in the crucible known as the Juicer, a fearsome hole slightly to the right of the comp wave. And the finals were most innovatively a jam session, which twas scribed and recorded by the great Seth Warren on video, for the purposes of judging and reviewing upon the results party. Forsooth. And yea, many many prizes were distributed, and much ale was consumed upon the site of the results party. In short, there was much rejoicing. Full results <http://www.kayakfreeride.com/2005results.html> can be found upon the Best in the West website, for a vow was forged that upon this year, the honorable event organizers would not forget and postpone the update for eleven months and three days, as has been the observed tradition in some years past. Forsooth, and verily so. Howsoever, for those who have no wish to break away from the brilliant narrative which they herein experience, the top three in the Men's Pro were indeed:

1) Jon Meyers (represent!)
2) Tom McKee (Fonix Monkey!)
3) Kevin Dombey (THE DOMBINATOR!)

And also, the three mightiest of the pro women were verily as so:

1) Whitney Lonsdale
2) Erin Griffith
3) Kristen Sprague

Great and indeed humourous are the skills of the Famous Leif Anderson, both in the realms of boating, cooking, and also verily writing (especially in ye olde Inglish). But long doth this article drag on, so there remain many tales which shall find no place here; tales such as of the day after the competition wherein I searched for the fang wave downstream of the competition, and mistakenly paddled unto the next town. Also, tales of how Jud the Kaiser would not give me a ride to canadia, to aid me in my quest to surf upon the rare monstrosity known to some as the brilliant wave. I was subsequently forced to kick upon his ass, and whoop up upon him in competition, a task which has consumed my soul for some years now. Forsooth. Indeed, this article could continue to drag on without end, for I could write for years about the many quests accomplished and foes vanquished by the Famous Leif. But herein shall the article cease.
