The Bladder
(4/28/06)
(Tracy Sage ready for action) The bladder is created when 10,000+ cfs rush over an inflatable dam in Horseshoe Bend ID. The wave can go from Super easy to catch and a glassy wave, to a pumping hole that you dont want to be in. The reason that the Bladder changes is due to the inflatable dam's air moving from side to side. The whole dynamics of the wave will change in a matter of seconds. The photo's were taken when the ferry was nearly impossible to catch, and the wave almost had to be caught on the fly. But there was about 20 minutes where the wave was easy to catch, the pile was perfect, and the moves were huge. (sorry I was surfing too) Once you flush off of the wave, the eddy is easy to catch, but the eddy that you need is the one on the other side of the river. So you have a hard ferry all the way across the river, then a walk back up above the wave, and finally another ferry before you drop back in. Althought grueling definately worth it. Hopefully the flow comes up for the rest of the week.
