'06 NAWFest Trip Report
(3/16/06)

(Short Creek Falls)

2,500 miles in just over a week! All done by me in the Go Big Rig, with trailer in tow. A lot of driving in some horrible conditions, think 60 mph gusty winds, heavy rain, SUPER thick fog, and steep curvy mountain roads. In the end it was all worth it:) I was able to make a lot of Fluid retailers and customers happy, attend the NAWFest, and get some gradient for my TVF team.

NAWFest was a great experience as usual and the Alabama crew knows how to throw a party. The short creek falls freestyle and boatercross were tons of fun on Friday. I managed to win the Expert Men's Boatercross with my good friend Steve Graybill comming in a close second. Thats rite, the M Flirt came in first and second. Steve also won the Men's Expert waterfall freestyle event. On Saturday everyone paddled down to Ender Hole and threw down. The freestyle was a combined event with two 45 sec. rides combining with a big air score during a freeride session to find the overall winner. I managed to squeeze out second overall in the Men's Expert class. Saturday night some people hucked themselves off the huge ramp at Kings Bend and then the festival ensued. Live music, videos, free beer, and vendor booths made for a really fun and exciting festival. There was a huge turnout this year and the organizers should be proud, especially the Alabama Small Boats guys.

After the festival a bunch of us did some laps on the Little River Canyon Suicide section and the Telllico. The plan was to paddle the Green on Mon. and Tues., but it wasn't releasing, an odd thing at this time of year. Check out some of the stories and shots from my TVF team on our blog: www.gdbsmu.com.
